A Chat with First Computer Virus Inventor 'Amjad Farooq Alvi'

A way back in year 1986 (i.e. 25 years ago), a 24 year old, Amjad Farooq Alvi and his brother Basit, a teenager, in Lahore, Pakistan, invented first Personal Computer virus called ©Brain. The intention was to protect a medical software copyright. Unexpectedly, this virus became such a rage among the PC users that sooner it appeared on TIME magazine's cover page.


Here is a chat with Alvi himself, who currently runs a telecom company in Pakistan with his brother. A curious caller in the chat show asks Alvi: "I am not sure whether or not this is a matter of pride that it was in Pakistan that the first computer virus was written. What do you think?" Interesting..how could it be that such a program was categorized as a virus?

It was rather a harmless virus..it simply used to change the volume label of the disk,where that software was being copied, besides copying the serial number of its parent to keep track the chain...
